Help us build technology for safer roads and stronger recovery
Safety Behind the Wheel Foundation is seeking donated computer equipment to support future LLM based survivor resources and traffic safety research.
Locally hosted LLM for digital survivor support
Local computing can reduce dependence on commercial AI services and recurring per use costs. It can also give us greater control over how the technology is developed, tested, and used.
We hope to explore LLM assisted tools that can help crash survivors and families find educational information, recovery resources, coping strategies, and appropriate professional support.
These tools are intended to supplement, not replace, medical care, mental health professionals, emergency services, or human support.
Traffic safety simulation
Computer simulation can recreate different combinations of vehicles, pedestrians, roadway conditions, visibility, speed, distraction, and driver behavior without putting anyone at risk.
AI and simulation may help us compare different scenarios, identify safety patterns, and explore solutions that could reduce crashes or lessen their severity.
Equipment we are seeking
We are especially interested in:
- GPU workstations and AI capable computers
- NVIDIA GPUs and other AI computing accelerators
- GPUs with 12 GB or more of memory, especially 24 GB or greater
- High performance desktop computers and servers
- Multi GPU systems
- Systems with 64 GB or more of RAM
- NVMe SSDs, enterprise storage, and NAS systems
- High speed networking equipment
- UPS systems and uninterruptible power supplies
- Battery backup and power protection equipment
- Server racks, cooling equipment, and related infrastructure
- Modern laptops and desktops for research, software development, and nonprofit operations
Complete systems and individual components may both be useful.
Have equipment to donate?
Businesses, universities, research organizations, technology companies, and individuals may have equipment that is no longer needed but could still provide years of useful service.
- Please contact us before shipping or delivering equipment.
- If possible, include the manufacturer, model, processor, GPU, memory, storage capacity, approximate age, quantity, and condition.
- Once we confirm that the equipment can support our work, we will provide the appropriate shipping or delivery address.
